Moral dimension of art is its experiential dimension, which in everyday contexts is accessible through normal, embodied, perception. It is not as automatically accessible in works of art--due to their restricted address of sense modalities. To recognize an art work's experiential dimension first polymodality must be restored and the experiential be reenacted--which is done by (empathetic) imagination. As a consequence, ethical evaluation of art is not necessarily inappropriate--however, it may not be as straightforward as censors may have us believe. The ethical dimension of art is experiential, based on intimated second-person acquaintance. (VI; VII:2,5,6,9; VIII:3,4).© Rob van Gerwen
