Obama's inaugural speech

Barack Obama was sworn in as the 44th president of the United States and the nation's first African-American president Tuesday. This is a transcript of his prepared speech.
In his speech Tuesday, President Obama said America must play its role in ushering in a new era of peace.

Logos: het amerikaanse volk koos haar 44e president. Ook verwijzingen naar historische gebeurtenissen, maar daarbij: we kiezen onze eigen geschiedenis (ook dat is ethos)
Ethos: positief: volwassenheid karakteriseert het goede in onze (pathos) geschiedenis: de idealen in de constitutie, en de toewijding van onze medeburgers (soldaten, slaven, hardwerkende arbeiders, en ouders); negatief: mensen die zich op hun office laten voorstaan, kiezen voor eigen gewin, en eigen genoegens, en die moeilijke kwesties afdekken: kinderachtig gedrag.
Niet alleen leiden onze drijfveer af van het verleden (idealen van de constitutie, zoals dor toegewijde mensen gerealiseerd), maar ook van de toekomst (mogen zij even trots op ons zijn als wij op de eersten)
