In 2008, drs. Rik Peels was appointed as a doctorate student (AIO) and Dr. Anthony Booth was appointed as a post-doc, paid for by the annual research budget which goes with the chair of a university professor. Their research is focused on epistemology, more in particular on virtue-epistemology. Furthermore, drs. Nick Boerma acts as part-time research assistant.
Presently, Professor Philipse is writing a scholarly book on the philosophy of religion in English, to be published by one of the Anglo-American university presses. Its central issue is how religious belief can be legitimately sustained in our modern, science-informed culture. According to its sub-title, the book is a Critique of Religious Reason, that is, a critical analysis of recent attempts to justify religious belief. The many different ways of doing so are spelled out in a decision tree, and the book is focused on those attempts that seem to be most promising at first sight, such as Alvin Plantinga's externalist theory of warrant, or Richard Swinburne's use of Bayesian confirmation theory in the justification of monotheism.
The reader is referred to Professor Philipse's list of publications for his other topics of research.
