Something about me (December 2023)

I'm a linguist working on formal, computational and experimental semantics. After graduating from Utrecht University (1998), I worked at the computer science department at Technion, Israel Institute of Technology. I moved to Utrecht University in 2010, where I serve as a chair in Computational Semantics and Artificial Intelligence at the Institute for Language Sciences. Currently I am PI and team leader of the Drum Languages project (NWO Free Competition grant). Previously I was PI and team leader of the ROCKY project (ERC Advanced Grant) and of the NWO VICI project "Between Logic and Common Sense". I serve in the boards of the focus area Human-Centered AI (2020-) and of the AI bachelor program (2016-). Earlier I served as the leader of the research team Language, Logic, and Information of the UiL OTS (2016-2021), as board member of the AI master program (2012-14), as board member of the focus area Neuroscience and Cognition (2015-7), and as chair of the undergraduate teaching committee in AI (2011-2016). In my editorial capacities, I have served in the editorial boards of the journals Linguistics and Philosophy, Transactions of the Association for Computational Linguistics, Research on Language and Computation, Journal of Logic and Computation, Linguistic Inquiry, Journal of Semantics, and Semantics and Pragmatics.
